Studdog (Smoke)

For our C-Litter with Gem I’ve chosen Old Inn Smoking Gun (Kingsdale) called Smoke. I’ve seen Smoke for the first time at a trainingsweek in April 2017 with Oliver in hungary and was keen on him at once. After seeing him working my wish to take him for Gem increased more and more, so I started to collect detailed informations about him.

Because of Oliver’s lack of time, Smoke hasn’t been shown on many Tests/Trials yet, but he did the Hunting Test in Hungary, that’s a requirement for breeding (Munkavizsga (MV) – Working Ceritificate). It’s a kind of cold-game test, including marks from land and water, walk up, retrieve from water, blind on land and tracking. He did it perfect. Also part of the test is a character test and a conformation, (it’s only pass or fail), and at the end you can get the “breedable” title, what he got. At the 16 dog Open Field Trial in Pilis (03.12.2017) organised by the Hungarian Working Retriever Club he reached a 4th place, excellent.
Oliver showed me Smoke, together with his bitch Blush, at a little Training, so I was able to visualise about his working style. I really liked what I’ve seen, Smoke reminds me well about Gem in many nuances 🙂 but in things Gem isn’t the best in, he shows great. Very good requirements in my opinion!
Smoke is very concentrated and steady at waiting, when it’s his turn he goes like hell. It’s really a pleasure to watch him, he is very stylish and biddable, has an excellent nose and loves searching. On the top of that, he is a real sweetheart with a nice character, I’ve learned him to know as an extremely friendly dog. He is rather a small, compact dog (really fits good with Gem) with good bones – the hole package is more than convincing so to say!

Oliver about Smoke (Dec. 2017):
Smoke is 4 years old, I like him very much, he is a nice dog, unfortunately due to my busy schedule I have no time to run him on competitions more (I think he ran less than 5 competitions in all his life – WTs and FTs combined). Maybe next year he can run the Skinners World Cup… he has a nice temperament, good picking up dog, and he produced very nice pups.

Smoke had one litter at the Kennel Aguzannis til now, I was able to learn to know two bitches out of this litter that live with Oliver. The two are very talented, I was totally pleased.

Smoke originally comes from Denmark (Old Inn Labradors), but is traced to irish/english lines. His sire DK FTCh Richter’s Edward af Rosefield is very closely bred (sire and dam side to FTCh Baildonian Baron of Craighorn (3rd IGL 1997) with Ir.FTCH Derrinstown Tillie (1st Irish Retriever Championship 1997)), so Edward’s sire DK FTCh Clonbara Smiler is a brother to Ir.FTCh Gary of Clonbara his grandsire motherside. Edward’s dam (Twinoaks Black Gam) dam’s FTCh Brookbird Dusty joins the lines of IR FTCh Wild Shot Dan (FTCh Blackharn Jonty, IR FTCh Ann of Cleary, FTCh Swinbrook Tan, FTCh/IrlFTCh Leacross Rinkals, FTCh/IrlFTCh Derryboy Daniel, aso.) with Medos Sandpiper (FTCh Pocklea Remus, FTCh Birdbrook Astra, FTCh Tibea Tosh, FTCh Purdey of Bonhote of Birdbrook, aso.), last of them also can be found in Yumi’s pedigree. Dusty also had some litters at the Brookbird Kennel, where wellknown dogs like per example FTCh Brookbird Daniel, Ir.FTCh Brookbird Tide and Keith Matthews bitch Brookbird Maeve of Copperbirch come from.

Smoke’s dam FTAW Watergreen Gypsy comes from Ireland and lives at the Old Inn Kennel in Denmark. Gypsy’s sire IrFTCh Rockenhart Voyager meanwhile is living in the USA (Old Oak Retrievers), the sire side comes out of FTCh Rozel Rocket of Tasco (1st Irish Retriever Championship 2003) and in this way FTCh Pocklea Remus, IntFTCh Heatherbank Alex of Tasco, FTCh Treo’s Sequin of Tasco, aso… His dam’s Sallyfort Hazel lines are traced back to IR FTCh Killerisk Romeo, FTCh Swinbrook Twig, FTCh/IrlFTCh Tasco Dan, GB FTCh & Ir.FTCh Theoweir Turramurra Teal and IrlFTCh Killerisk Hero.
Gypsy’s dam IR FTCh Watergreen Freeway joins similar lines like her sire, on Ir.FTCh Carraigairt Adam of Glenloch (FTCh Pocklea Remus, GB FTCh & Ir.FTCh Theoweir Turramurra Teal, aso.) and on FTCh Holly’s Pet (IR FTCh Killerisk Romeo, FTCh Raughlin Pete of Drakeshead, aso.)

I’m expecting nice, motivated, easy to handle puppies with a great working and hunting passion, enough self-reliance and a well nose out of this mating!
Smoke and Gem are also optical very harmonious in my opinion. I’m looking forward to this litter, that also will be the first color mixed TreasureYarden’s litter. And even more I’m happy to be able to keep one of the bitch pups for myself 😀
